What is health insurance?

Health insurance can also be referred to as income insurance. The purpose of insurance is for an owner or an employee to have financial security in case of long-term sick leave.

Health insurance provides compensation after 90 days of sick leave. This means that a person who falls ill first receives paid sick pay from their employer or company for 14 days. After the first 14 days, they receive compensation from Försäkringskassan.

Försäkringskassan will reimburse up to 80% of the salary but has a ceiling of just over SEK 24 000. This means that a person with a higher salary will have a larger discrepancy in the reimbursement from Försäkringskassan.

That's why it's beneficial to have the security of a health insurance policy that complements Försäkringskassan's compensation, so that you can focus on recovering in peace and quiet.
